
WHITE HART INN - THATCHED ROOF
Exciting times ahead, the thatch roof has come to the end of its life. The scaffold will be erected so that the thatcher can start. He will strip back the roof and replace the old reed with new. 25 years ago this was last done, we will be open as usual, serving great food and drinks, why not call in and watch this ancient art of thatching taking place. Follow the process below.
15TH MAY 2025 - SCAFFOLD BEING ERECTED

The first step in the process, erect the scaffolding so that the Thatcher has access to the entire roof. Initial scaffolding erected, with more to follow. Thatcher is due to start on the 19th of May. Exciting to see the thatching process from start to finish.
16TH MAY 2025 - SCAFFOLD COMPLETED

The scaffolding is now complete, ready for the thatcher to start on the 19th of May.

Tom and Angelicas wedding is in September, the roof must be completed ready for the ceremony.
19TH MAY 2025 - OLD THATCH BEING REMOVED

The process starts with the old thatch being removed from the roof. Amazing to watch a thatcher in action.
20TH MAY 2025 - NEW THATCH DELIVERY



There were 16,200 bundles of reed, all stacked nicely and ready to be put on the roof. Unloading the lorry was a feat of engineering. Our drone captured these amazing images.

28TH MAY 2025 - PROGRESS BEING MADE
The new thatch is being applied. Under stormy skies, the new thatch is taking shape, the colour contrast is amazing.



29TH MAY 2025 - WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES
In one day, Andy has made great progress with the re-thatch. So much skill and talent involved.


3rd JUNE 2025 - OVER HALFWAY ACROSS THE BACK
Andy working hard to replace the old thatch and replacing it with 14 inches of new reed thatch.


10th JUNE 2025 - BACK ALMOST COMPLETED
The back of the thatch is almost complete. Not much more to complete before tackling the front.


11th JUNE 2025 - MORE THATCH NEEDED!
A further delivery of thatch arrived today. It is incredible to see how much is being used.

16th JUNE 2025 - STARTING THE FRONT
The thatch is being stripped from the front ready for the new reed this week.
